Bodiam Castle Food Festival

We were delighted to bring our festival to Bodiam Castle, on 16th-17th July 2016. With its impressive moat and historic landscape, this romantic castle set a picturesque scene for a fantastic foodie day out.

Visitors to the imposing National Trust venue were treated to a wide range of fresh regional produce on offer from festival stallholders. From gourmet burgers to retro ice creams, organic sausages, fine macarons and artisan beers, there were taste sensations for all ages.

In the demonstration tent Oliver from RaviOllie shared his secrets to making fresh ravioli, authentic medieval recipes were demonstrated by Jan Black, and there were more fascinating demos and talks from guests including Reza Mahammad; Hush Heath Estate Wines; The Food Teacher and Wildfood UK.

Children loved exploring the castle’s fantastical world of knights and princesses and garden games, a dedicated storyteller and face painting added to the fun. With the sun shining and plenty to satisfy all ages, everyone enjoyed relaxing in these spectacular surroundings.

Bodiam Castle was built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, knight of Edward III with the permission of Richard II ostensibly to defend the area against French invasion during the Hundred Years’ War. With spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis it is one of Britain’s most impressive ancient monuments.
